(AU News) - An innovative scheme to keep the streets of northern Taiwan clean has seen thousands of citizens dutifully collecting bags of dog poop in the hope of winning $2000 in gold.

More than 4000 residents of New Taipei City, which surrounds the capital, have signed up for the competition since it was launched in early August, and have so far collected 14,000 bags of the stuff.

The anonymous allegation against the father-of-two, who was mayor of Medford in New Jersey, was posted on a website and included a photo of a man who appeared to be him, in his underwear.

(Associated Press) - A transgender Virginia inmate has appealed the dismissal of her lawsuit asking the state to pay for her to have a sex change operation, saying a jury should decide if hormones and other therapies she receives are adequate.

U.S. District Judge James Turk tossed out Ophelia De’Lonta’s lawsuit in October, saying the state was adequately treating her gender identity disorder, a mental diagnosis in which people believe they were born the wrong sex.

The demonstrators’ say they were detained on Thursday at the 7th Precinct on the Lower East Side for blocking traffic near City Hall, so they asked officers to allow them to place an order for pizza.
