(AU News) - An innovative scheme to keep the streets of northern Taiwan clean has seen thousands of citizens dutifully collecting bags of dog poop in the hope of winning $2000 in gold.
More than 4000 residents of New Taipei City, which surrounds the capital, have signed up for the competition since it was launched in early August, and have so far collected 14,000 bags of the stuff.

(Daily Mail By RACHEL QUIGLEY) - A transgender woman claims she was tasered in the stomach and the crotch by rangers after they found out she was born a man.
Brooke Fantelli, 43, of Romano, San Diego, was stunned by the taser gun by the Bureau of Land Management while she was participating in a photo shoot in the desert near El Centro late last month.

(Associated Press) - Married Republican mayor Chris Myers has quit – two months after he was accused of having sex with a prostitute at a California hotel.
The anonymous allegation against the father-of-two, who was mayor of Medford in New Jersey, was posted on a website and included a photo of a man who appeared to be him, in his underwear.

(Associated Press) - A transgender Virginia inmate has appealed the dismissal of her lawsuit asking the state to pay for her to have a sex change operation, saying a jury should decide if hormones and other therapies she receives are adequate.
U.S. District Judge James Turk tossed out Ophelia De’Lonta’s lawsuit in October, saying the state was adequately treating her gender identity disorder, a mental diagnosis in which people believe they were born the wrong sex.

(Daily Mail) - Around 200 bears were killed on the first day of a controversial black bear hunt that animal rights groups had done all they could to block.
New Jersey state officials have said the six-day hunt is needed to reduce the state’s bruin population, now estimated at about 3,400.

(Daily Mail) - A group of Occupy Wall Street protesters said they were left hungry in custody as police officers devoured their delivery of pizza pies.
The demonstrators’ say they were detained on Thursday at the 7th Precinct on the Lower East Side for blocking traffic near City Hall, so they asked officers to allow them to place an order for pizza.

Lenore Ulaszek, 36, resigned after social workers found that a young student was living with the grown woman.
